Before I became a photographer, I was a family doctor. I've always loved working with families — children were the ones who brightened my days in the clinic the most. Ultimately the long hours and lack of autonomy left me feeling quite unhappy with my career choice. (That is my husband and me at our medical school graduation — I think we were trying not to smile!)
After having my own kids, I decided to leave medicine. I didn't know what I wanted to do instead, but I knew I wanted it to be happy work. Something that I loved and obsessed over. I eventually found photography and never looked back.
I am greatly inspired by color film photography. I've incorporated using vintage film cameras into my family work because they add a sense of nostalgia that doesn't exist with digital photography. This photo of my sister and me from the 1983 is the perfect example of the beauty of film. It is this feeling, these colors, and this light that I am constantly chasing in my work today.
